Blondes vs. Brunettes Dallas 2008
August 2008 - Rep. Branch served as emcee of the opening ceremonies and officiated the coin toss at the start of the 1st annual Blondes vs. Brunettes Dallas Powder Puff football game. Young women from the Uptown Dallas area met at Griggs Park in Uptown for the football game after raising over $60,000 to benefit the Alzheimer's Association of Dallas, more than tripling their initial goal of $20,000. In honor of the outstanding philanthropic efforts, Rep. Branch presented the event organizer, Erin Finegold, with a flag flown over the Texas Capitol in Austin.

May 2008 - Rep. Dan Branch visited historic East Dallas' J.L. Long Middle School. The school, opened in 1933, was designated as a Dallas Historical Landmark in 2004. Rep. Texas Woman's University Commencement Address
May 2008 - Rep. Branch delivered the commencement address at Texas Women's University's graduation ceremonies for the College of Professional Education. Approximately 2,200 audience members, including nearly 500 future educators, librarians, principals and communication disorder specialists listened to Branch's remarks. After the ceremony, Branch joined TWU Chancellor Dr. Ann Stuart at a reception to greet the new graduates and their families.

April 2008 - Rep. Branch visited Dallas ISD's William Lipscomb Elementary School to help lead in the saying of the pledges of allegiance and minute of silence. During his visit, Branch had the opportunity to visit with Principal Yolanda Gonzalez and Assistant Principal Monica Gonzalez, as well as several pre-K students. Branch also visited with a member of the Lipscomb PTA about the importance of the school to the community.

Highland Park Library Grand Re-Opening
April 2008 - Rep. Dan Branch joined Highland Park Mayor Bill White, City Councilwoman Gail Madden and Library Board member Bonnie Case at a ceremony commemorating the re-opening of the newly renovated Highland Park Library. Branch was honored by Ms. Case with a resolution from Texas Library Association for his strong support of libraries and learning. Later, Branch addressed the crowd and presented Mayor White, Ms. Case and Councilwoman Madden with a flag flown over the Texas Capitol in honor of the historic re-opening.

Branch Serves as Master of Ceremonies at Medina Children's Home Dinner
April 2008 - Rep. Dan Branch welcomed thirteen hundred guests to the Medina Children's Home Dinner at the Fairmont Hotel in Downtown Dallas. Among the guests were quarterback Colt McCoy and wide receiver Jordan Shipley of the UT Longhorn football team, and their head coach, Mack Brown, who delivered the keynote address. During the evening, Branch honored Coach Brown with a commemorative certificate, sang the Texas alma mater, The Eyes of Texas, with the players, and enjoyed hearing the many success stories told by Medina Home students.

March 2008 - To help honor J.W. Ray Elementary's "Top Readers", Representative Branch hosted the thirty 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students to lunch at Chili's Grill & Bar. Each of the students completed twenty or more books during the Fall 2007 semester and have continued their eager reading habits into the spring. J.W. Ray Principal Bernette Austin, who was also honored by Rep. Branch, created the Top Readers program as a part of her school-wide Earning by Learning efforts.

Branch Welcomes AFI Dallas Film Festival
March 2008 - Representative Branch walked the red carpet on a windy opening night of the American Film Institute's 2008 Dallas Film Festival. The opening night festivities were held at the historic Majestic Theater in Downtown Dallas. Several Hollywood stars, including Helen Hunt, Mickey Rooney and Bill Paxton, followed Branch and other VIPs on the red carpet for the premier of Hunt's directorial debut film, Then She Found Me.

SMU Chosen as Site of the George W. Bush Presidential Center
Februrary 2008 - Representative Branch was among select dignitaries in attendance as SMU President R. Gerald Turner and representatives from the Bush Library Foundation officially announced that SMU would be the site of the Bush Presidential Center. The Center, to be located in the heart of District 108, will consist of a library, a museum and an institute, is scheduled to be completed within 5 years. |

Branch Attends SMU Crum Basketball Center Opening
Februrary 2008 - Representative Branch was on hand for the opening ceremony for SMU's new Crum Basketball Center. The new facility contains separate full-size practice courts for both men's and women's basketball teams, as well as locker rooms and lounges, and a fully equipped training and rehabilitation room with in-ground hydrotherapy pools. SMU broke ground on the Center in December of 2006 as part of an effort to recruit more competitively with other schools across the nation. |

February 2008 - Rep. Branch helped kick off Winter Congress Convention 2008 for the Texas chapter of the Junior State of America, delivering the keynote address during the opening ceremonies.
