Two of the priorities that Chamber members consistently rate as most important for our community are public education and workforce development. The Chamber was invited to testify before the Select Committee on Higher and Public Education Finance at a public hearing held in San Antonio Tuesday, May 13. The Chamber held a pre-hearing breakfast to honor and visit with Committee Chairman Dan Branch, then Chairman Cigarroa expressed concern over chronic funding problems that low-growth districts such as SAISD are facing, as well as the funding challenges of high-growth districts such as Northside and North East ISD. He also expressed the Chamber's support for San Antonio's public community colleges and universities, urging the committee to find ways to keep these institutions accessible and affordable. Over the next few months The Chamber will be developing its State Legislative Agenda to further advocate to continue to improve our schools.
