That would in turn create this domino effect that would leave a string of high-level statewide jobs open as elected officials like Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst, Attorney General Greg Abbott and State Rep. U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison said Wednesday that she plans to resign from the upper chamber of Congress this fall after officially launching her campaign to unseat Governor Rick Perry in the Republican primary election next year.
Hutchison suggested in an interview with WBAP radio talk show host Mark Davis of Dallas that she will step down from her seat in the U.S. Senate will October or November because she can no longer afford to keep that post and compete with Perry at the same time.

DALLAS—Rep. Dan Branch (R-Dallas) announced that on tomorrow's semi-annual Ethics Commission filing, Texans for Dan Branch will report over $1,100,000 in cash on hand and pledges, representing an aggregate of over 1000 contributors. Branch is seeking support for his re-election to the Texas House or a possible statewide run for Texas Attorney General should the current Attorney General, Greg Abbott, not seek re-election.
Rep. Branch welcomed members of the Best Southwest Chambers of Commerce from South Dallas County at a breakfast held at the UNT-Dallas campus. Mayors and council members from several cities and the UNT System Chancellor also joined the chamber group.
Chairman Branch joined Commissioner Raymund Paredes, Representative Helen Giddings, and the Texas Legislative Black Caucus to show support for Paul Quinn College, a member of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The college recently lost its accreditation status and is seeking more time and money to raise enrollment. Chairman Branch voiced his support for the university by highlighting its unique and rich history.
Representative Dan Branch celebrated Independence Day with family and friends in and around Dallas. Branch rode in the Park Cities July 4th Parade with daughter Sarah, and later, Dan and wife, Stacey, hosted friends at a cookout.
Chairman Branch was honored by the Texas Association of Community Colleges at their annual convention in Forth Worth. Each session, TACC awards the title of Community College Champion to legislators who fought for the unique and growing role that community colleges play in the Texas higher education system.
